NGESO

Over the past year NGESO and NGET have been implementing the revised modelling assumptions for Battery Storage (BESS) to identify opportunities to bring forward the proposed connection dates.

Excitingly, we are now are seeing NGESO issue revised “non-firm” connection offers with developers that allow for connections several years earlier than previously possible. However, this comes with the potential for curtailment should the BESS operate differently to new assumptions implemented by National Grid.

At Blake Clough we have developed our own internal tools to carry out this analysis and produce results that can help inform a Developers decision to accept or reject the non-firm connection offers that are now being offered.

The graphs below shows some of our output from our curtailment analysis. The graph shows the generation headroom over the course of a year in green, and the frequency and quantity of the curtailment in red when capacity is unavailable.

If you have recently received any “non-firm” connection offers and are looking for support to better understand what this means for your project, please get in touch. We’d be very happy to help!
