Blake Clough Consulting is a specialist energy consultancy with a focus on the electricity networks.  We cover a range of areas relating to feasibility studies, power systems studies, offshore wind, project engineering, innovation, regulation and technical strategy, with a strong emphasis on our customer relationships.

Our clients range from electricity network operators, regulators and public sector organisations through to private developers, both onshore and offshore, looking to develop projects connecting into the electricity networks.

Our work is underpinned by solid analysis and modelling, including techno-economic assessment, cost benefit analysis, power systems analysis and network modelling.

Blake Clough has now been trading since September 2021. Since this time, we have built up a strong pipeline of work with major clients and our staff are very busy delivering multiple projects.  We have a young, enthusiastic team of consultants, which we will continue to grow strongly over the coming months and years.

The Role

We are looking for passionate and high performing individuals who enjoy working on challenging projects to join us to help deliver a range of interesting and rewarding projects.  Applicants should have a strong background in Power Networks with significant experience in working with Distribution Networks Operators (DNOs), the Transmission Operators (TOs) and NGESO. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience managing grid connection offers for large scale Solar, BESS and Wind project connecting into both the Distribution and Transmission network.

This position is for a Principal/Lead Grid Connections and Regulation consultant with at least 6 years’ or relevant GB grid experience, who can help us lead and deliver our grid connection consulting and electricity regulatory work. This will involve leading technical and commercial engagement with the various Network Operators on behalf of our clients to ensure the optimal grid connection offers are secured. It will also include thorough connection offer reviews, G99 and Transmission grid connection applications, network capacity analysis, and the review/costing of Contestable elements of connection projects.

However, depending on the skills and interests of the individual there will also likely be opportunities to support a wider range of projects including innovation, data analysis and power systems projects.

You will also be responsible for the line management and leadership of more junior staff as the business grows.  You will also be responsible for client relationships as well as winning and delivering projects.

The Individual

The following capabilities and experience are desired for this role:

  • 6+ years’ experience within the electricity networks industry.
  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering subject.
  • Strong understanding of the electricity networks and electricity regulation.
  • Proven Project Management skills including the ability to lead a project team.
  • Outstanding report writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and the ability to frame conclusions and outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of electricity networks and the challenges faced by Network Operators and their various stakeholders and customers.
  • Experience and knowledge of G99 technical engineering requirements and grid connection process.
  • Knowledge of the latest grid connection charging methodology and connection regulations.
  • Understanding of Transmission grid connection offer documents and ability to critically analyse these documents from both a technical, commercial and regulatory perspective.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Client focussed with the ability to manage and grow positive relationship with demanding clients.
  • Innovative mindset, with the ability to problem solve and identify creative solutions to challenging problems.

Base Location

We currently have offices in London, Glasgow and West Yorkshire.
