The Role

We are seeking a commercially driven and technically strong Lead Grid and Regulation Consultant (Frankfurt, Berlin) to support the expansion of our advisory services within the German electricity market.

This role combines deep expertise in grid connections and electricity regulation with a strong Business Development mandate. You will play a leading role in originating, structuring, and delivering complex grid connection and regulatory advisory assignments for utility-scale renewable energy and storage projects across Germany.

You will work extensively with the German Transmission System Operators (50Hertz, TenneT, Amprion, TransnetBW), Distribution System Operators (DSOs), project developers, IPPs, and investors. A strong understanding of the regulatory framework governed by the Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), the Energiewirtschaftsgesetz (EnWG), EEG, and current connection and charging methodologies is essential.

A key focus of the role will be supporting clients in securing and optimising grid connection capacity for large-scale Solar PV, Onshore and Offshore Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Data Centres connecting at both, distribution and transmission levels.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading commercial and technical negotiations with TSOs and DSOs on behalf of clients to secure bankable and optimised grid connection agreements.
  • Advising on grid access processes under the German regulatory framework, including capacity allocation, curtailment regimes, redispatch 2.0 implications, and grid expansion planning.
  • Managing and reviewing grid connection applications and offers from technical, commercial, and regulatory perspectives.
  • Assessing connection cost structures, grid reinforcement requirements, and contestable works.
  • Supporting due diligence processes for project acquisitions and financing.
  • Conducting network capacity and congestion assessments, including analysis of regional grid development plans (NEP).
  • Advising clients on regulatory risk, charging mechanisms, and evolving connection frameworks.

In addition to technical delivery, this role has a strong Business Development component. You will:

  • Develop and execute a German market growth strategy for grid and regulatory advisory services.
  • Build and manage senior-level client relationships across developers, utilities, investors, and infrastructure funds.
  • Identify new commercial opportunities in areas such as flexibility markets, grid-friendly project design, hybridisation, and storage optimisation.
  • Lead proposal development and commercial structuring of advisory engagements.
  • Position the company as a thought leader within the German energy transition landscape.

Depending on your interests and expertise, you may also support projects related to flexibility markets, ancillary services, congestion management, innovation funding, and energy system optimisation.

You will play a key leadership role internally, mentoring junior consultants and contributing to the continued growth and strategic positioning of the business in Germany.

The Individual

We are looking for a commercially minded leader with deep technical credibility in the German electricity sector.

The following experience and capabilities are required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience within the German electricity networks and renewable energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of the German regulatory framework (EnWG, EEG, BNetzA processes, grid charging methodologies).
  • Direct experience working with German TSOs and/or DSOs on grid connection processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing grid connection processes for large-scale Solar PV, Wind (onshore and/or offshore), and BESS projects.
  • Strong understanding of transmission-level and distribution-level connection requirements, including protection concepts, technical compliance requirements, and system studies.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating grid connection agreements and related technical documentation.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess financial implications of grid-related risks and costs.
  • Proven Business Development experience, including client relationship management, opportunity origination, and proposal leadership.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear strategic recommendations.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English (German language skills strongly preferred).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, proactive approach, and ability to operate in a fast-evolving regulatory environment.
  • A valid work permit for Germany is required.
